I am currently a Ph.D. student under the supervision of Dr. Ming Z. Fan. My Ph.D. thesis project is focusing on understanding roles of prescribed in-feed therapeutic multi-antimicrobials in affecting the small intestinal starch digestion, nutrients (starch, dietary fiber, and lipids) digestibility, and gut microbiota compositions in weanling pigs. The objective of my study was to address the hypothesis that weanling porcine growth promotion associated with therapeutic antimicrobials was mediated via improving intestinal starch digestion and/or nutrients digestibility and was through the modulation of gut microbiota. Part of my research results has been written up in two abstracts for oral presentations to the 2020- and 2021- CSAS-ASAS Annual Meeting and Trade Show. The end goal of my research is to shed light on developing novel alternative strategies to reduce uses of antimicrobials.
