World Congress

The biggest event for CGIL in the past ten years was the 1994 5thWorld Congress of Genetics Applied to Livestock Producton (WCGALP) in which over 1500 people were in attendance. This event required four years of planning and preparation. The major responsibilities fell to Drs. Burnside and Smith. Other faculty were involved in organizing sessions and providing support whenever needed. Carol Lohuis was hired to see to the very detailed planning of rooms, meals, sponsors, transportation, publications, signs, registrations, tours, and publicity events. Due to the large turnout, sufficient funds were generated to support visitors and for travel of CGIL personnel to the 6thWCGALP in Armidale, NSW, Australia in 1998.
