Dr. Mike Lohuis was instrumental in designing, organizing, and conducting an Executive Certificate Program in Animal Breeding for industry personnel. The program was to update people in the industry to help in the transfer of technology. The courses were established with an attendance of about 30 people. All members of CGIL and others in Canada participated in the presentation of material. The dates and titles of the courses were as follows:
| Jun 10-12, 1996 | Computer Technologies |
| Aug 7-9, 1996 | Applied Genetic Evaluation |
| Feb 24-26, 1997 | Optimizing Genetic Improvement |
| May 12-14, 1997 | Competitive Breeding Strategies |
The instructors in these courses not from CGIL, at the time, were
| Larry J. Martin, George Morris Centre |
| Yves Plante, Saskatchewan Research Council |
| Gerald Jansen, Canadian Dairy Network |
| Andrew Robinson, BIO |
| Paola Rozzi, Canadian Dairy Network |
| Brian Sullivan, Canadian Centre for Swine Improvement |
| Scott Totzke, United Breeders |
| Kevin Wade, McGill University |
| Alan Wildeman, Molecular Biology and Genetics |
These courses were only given once. Although the courses were well received, new topics and orientation will need to be considered before developing a new set of courses for industry as it is being re-structured.
Dr. Lohuis and Marc Lazenby also organized two Canadian Dairy Breeders Workshops on Genetic Improvement. One was held in Guelph in February 18-19, 1998 and the other was in St Hyacinthe, Quebec on March 5-6, 1998. Jean Bigue (CIAQ), Denny Funk (US Holstein Association), Pierre Laliberte (CIAQ-Semex), and Brian Van Doormaal (Canadian Dairy Network) assisted Dr. Lohuis in giving these workshops. Such workshops were very useful in transfering technology to producers.
