Estimation of Genetic Parameters
 ANSC*6380 - Winter 2004

Last Updated: September 4, 2003

OBJECTIVES:

This course will cover the theory of quadratic forms, expectations, maximum likelihood, and Bayesian methods for the purpose of estimating genetic parameters from linear models.  Use will be made of general programs for analyzing particular kinds of animal models.  Students will be expected to use these programs during the course to analyze real data.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

Assignments will be given periodically during the first half of the course.  The last part of the course will involve the analysis of a real data problem, and subsequent reporting of results.  An oral final exam will be given.

RECOMMENDED TEXT:
        None, notes will be provided

GRADING:
Final grade will be based on assignments (50%), the project on real data (30%), and the final exam(20%).
