Research has been fun. The spark was meeting Dr. C. R. Henderson and Dr. Dale Van Vleck in 1969 during my first few days as a graduate student at Cornell University, the summer that men walked on the moon. That was the best summer of my life.

Animal breeding is a dying field of study, but animal genetics and genomics is a growing area, which requires many of the same skills as an animal breeder plus knowledge of quantitative and molecular genetics. Students need to train themselves to be able to change with the times.
