Dr. Sargolzaei's main areas of research are utilization of genomic information (chip and sequence) in livestock breeding programs, investigating new methodologies to increase accuracy of estimated genomic breeding values, imputation and computational genomics.
Since he joined the Centre for Genetic Improvement of Livestock (CGIL) at University of Guelph in 2006, he has developed several statistical methods and software tools aiming at analysing large scale genomic data encountered in livestock populations. The driving force behind his software developments has been a keen interest in applying newer statistical methods and advanced programming techniques for analysing big genomic data. He uses C++ language for programming.
He has published more than 40 papers in peer-reviewed journals and more than 80 articles and abstracts in conference proceedings.
During his career, Dr. Sargolzaei has kept close ties with both university and industry and has had strong collaboration with industry funded research projects and also with mentoring graduate students.
