I'm Gabriele and I am from Italy.
I did my PhD at the Sassari University (Italy) under the supervision of Prof. Macciotta. The focus of my study was to identify signature of genomic selection in the Italian cattle using statistical approaches such as the Fixed index (FST), composite log likelihood (CLL) and Runs of Homozygosity (ROH).
I completed my thesis with title of "Approaches for investigating genome variability in cattle” in 2014 and soon after I joined Parco Tecnologico Padano (PTP Science Park - http://www.ptp.it ) as a bioinformatician.
Being involved in different European projects such as: Climate Genomics for Farm Animal Adaptation (CLIMGEN - https://climgen.bios.cf.ac.uk ), ADAPTmap goat project (http://www.goatadaptmap.org ), Gene2farm (http://www.gene2farm.eu ), Innovative Management of Animal Genetic Resources" (IMAGE - http://www.imageh2020.eu ), I got the opportunity to gain hands on experience in data handling and methodological approaches associated with different species including cow, sheep, goat and pig using SNP chip. Moreover, I created tools to help researchers in genetics study, such as the Zanardi Software for SNP array data analysis (https://github.com/bioinformatics-ptp/Zanardi/wiki ), having a strong background in python programming language, R and bash (Linux).
I’m now a post-doc fellow at department of Animal Bioscience of the University of Guelph, under the supervision of Dr. Christine Baes. My research interests are now focused on the inbreeding and the relationship with selection, both in Canadian dairy cattle and in turkey hybrid line population.
