There is no such thing as FREE parking anymore, and the following information will help you decide where and how to park your vehicle for the 2-day tournament.
The arena complex is building # 75 on the SE corner of campus
(see University of Guelph map at http://www.uoguelph.ca/campus/map/
). Lots P12,
P14 and P15 are adjacent to the arena and the nearest places to
park.
Unfortunately, these lots are mainly 'permit only' lots, with
about 60 parking meters (@ $2 per hour). Our parking enforcement
is pretty ruthless, so I would not suggest playing, ‘parking lot
roulette', and parking illegally ! You WILL most likely get a
ticket. If it's really a busy day, you may not find an empty meter
either, but normally they are available.
The only 'safe' system is to buy a full day pass at the parking
kiosk located in lot P31 (closest and easiest to find). You buy a
pass ($ 10 for the day) from the attendant at the kiosk, tell him
you want to park in P12, display the pass in your window, and then
park legally in P12 for the day and evening. You can go in and out
as often as you wish. This way you won't have any anxiety about
getting a ticket to affect your hockey performance !
If you are in the lot for only part of the day, you can return to
the attendant and get a pro-rated refund. It's a bit of a hassle,
but not too bad. Allow an extra 15-20 minutes prior to your first
game to figure this out once you get here. If you decide to take
your chances and park without a voucher in the ‘permit only' part
of the lots, the flat fine is $50. If you run overtime at a metre,
the fine is $25, so the daily pass is the logical way to go. Sorry
boys. Parking revenues pay our salaries here !!
