Let’s all congratulate Tania Archbold! She has been nominated by the Guelph YMCA-YWCA for the Women of Distinction award for her work as a La Leche League Canada (LLLC) leader, helping mothers achieve their breastfeeding goals and gain confidence in their parenting abilities. Recipients will be announced at the Women of Distinction Fundraising Gala, on May 1st, 2014.
She has been an LLLC leader since 2007 working to support women during breastfeeding. The LLLC mission is “To encourage, promote and provide mother-to-mother breastfeeding support and educational opportunities as an important contribution to the health of children, families and society.” Tania Archbold helps inform women with accurate, scientific based information on breastfeeding while providing emotional support during an emotionally vulnerable time in their lives. Women can get one-on-one help and may also attend the monthly evening meetings planned and facilitated by Mrs. Archbold. The meetings adopt the peer support model providing breastfeeding mothers with a safe, comfortable space to share their breast feeding experiences and allow for discussion. Here is where Tania Archbold may augment the discussions with research based information ensuring mothers are receiving current, accurate information on breastfeeding.
Tania Archbold recently presented at the 2011 LLLC leader day. This talk was centered on helping mothers communicate effectively with their health care providers, in efforts to maintain the breastfeeding relationship when mothers or their babies are having health problems. She has also organized and hosted the 2010 Health Care Professional seminar featuring Karen Kerkhoff Gromada, author of Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More!, a La Leche League International Book.
Through her many efforts Mrs. Archbold helps breastfeeding mothers in our area immensely and deserves all the recognition we can steer her way. For her community service and support of breastfeeding mothers in our area, join me and send Tania your best wishes for the May 1st Women of Distinction Fundraising Gala award ceremony!
